There are very few brands that grow from garage enthusiasm into a fully fledged, high-tech shipyard. Technohull is one of them
Greece is used to being a stage for beautiful boats, but it’s not every day that a local brand, in just about two decades, becomes a point of reference for high-performance, luxury RIBs. Technohull is exactly that kind of brand. They started as a team obsessed with the sea and speed, and today, from Lavrio, they deliver boats to several continents – with instantly recognizable design and performance very few in the class can match. Their homepage still reads “high technology, high performance luxury boats” – and this time it isn’t just marketing, it’s a statement of fact.
STORY OF A VISION
The beginning was simple: in 2005 a group of enthusiasts started experimenting with RIBs, and that’s how the name Technohull was born. Very soon the Sea DNA 999 appeared – a boat that proved you can combine speed, serious seakeeping and clean Greek styling, and it opened the doors to European boat shows and the brand’s first dealers. That first wave also brought larger models: with the Omega 41 Technohull practically opened the way for larger, “mega” RIBs on the domestic market and showed that clients actually wanted more deck space, more comfort and more power – but still in a RIB format. Shortly after, the first partnerships in Europe and around the Mediterranean followed, and Technohull stepped outside Greek waters to become a name seen at shows across the continent.
TECHNOLOGY AS A TURNING POINT
The real breakthrough came when the company formed its in-house team of naval architects and introduced Dynastream – their own hull design philosophy. Instead of using a universal, “one-size-fits-all” bottom, Technohull began to calculate a specific hull for each model, tailoring it to length, weight and target speed. The result is exactly what owners love them for: the boat remains composed even when the weather turns, and it still stays fast and efficient. That was the moment they moved from a talented workshop into the league of builders with genuine in-house know-how, for whom technology is a real backbone, not a slogan.
In the same period they also introduced an advanced digital touchscreen control system that monitors virtually all onboard functions from one place – a serious step forward for the RIB segment at the time. From that point on, the range started to grow.
NEW GENERATION
Today, Technohull structures its model range through several distinct lines: the Luxury Collection, the Day Boats, the Sporty Souls, and, in its latest chapter, the Expedition Series with the XPD 46 as the first model. At the top of this offering sits the Alpha 50, the model that opened a new chapter in the yard’s design language. A semi-vertical, wave-piercing bow and a twin-stepped hull are combined with a deck conceived for real onboard living – wide walkways, a large forward sunbed, a centrally arranged cockpit area, and a cabin that no longer feels like a compromise but a natural extension of day use. The yard itself says that the Alpha 50 introduces “a fresh and modern perspective on comfort, style, and luxury, and it truly shows, because this is the model where Technohull starts speaking the language of lifestyle boating, not just pure performance.
Immediately below the brand’s flagship is the Omega 47, a large, luxury RIB that combines Technohull’s signature speed with serious deck space and has become one of the benchmark models in the class of big open RIBs. For those looking for a day-cruising, Mediterranean format, there are newer models such as the Alpha 40, 38 Grand Sport, GTX, and GT7 – all sharing the same sharper design language, generous open spaces, powerful engine options, and the ability to spend a full day on the water without giving up the comfort below the console. In doing so, Technohull has filled the gap between larger and smaller sizes and shown that the same design and technology signature can be offered in multiple formats
In this evolution, the latest addition is the XPD 46, the first model of the Expedition Series, designed for owners planning true all-year, all-weather cruising while retaining Technohull’s hallmark performance and distinctive look. A high bow, the Dynastream deep-V hull with ventilated steps, and a beamy deck with multiple lounging and sunbathing areas underline its serious offshore character, while the central superstructure with sliding doors, a retractable roof, and a fully opening aft window allows the boat to transform in an instant from a closed, weather-protected cockpit into a bright, open day space. Below deck, there are two separate cabins – a forward master with ensuite and an aft guest cabin – plus an optional skipper’s cabin, so the XPD 46 is aimed at owners planning extended passages and more demanding routes, with the level of comfort and finish Technohull clients are already accustomed to.
THE LAVRIO SHIPYARD
All of that performance talk today has a single address – Lavrio. In 2021, Technohull opened a modern shipyard there, set on a site of about 70 acres (around 28 hectares), with more than 25,000 sq.m of covered production space. Within the same site they do everything: concept and prototyping, GRP and vacuum-infusion lamination, production of carbon parts, climate-controlled spray booths and post-curing, all the way to final outfitting. They also have a large 5-axis Belotti CNC milling machine of 20 meters, which means they can build molds and large components in-house. And since everything is located right next to Olympic Marine, every new boat can be launched and sea-trialed very quickly – a luxury not every shipyard of this size can claim. To complete the experience, they have also created their own exclusive lounge inside the marina, where they welcome clients, so even the hand-over feels as premium as the boat itself.
Technohull has grown from a sporty, almost boutique brand into a name that’s followed well beyond its home market. The Greek signature is still there, but the ambition has long since moved past local boundaries. That’s why this story is relevant for us on the Adriatic too: it shows how strong design, investment in in-house technology and smart portfolio expansion can turn a “small” workshop into a brand that now stands comfortably alongside the big Mediterranean names.
