SANLORENZO SP92 – Floating piece of architecture with very well-balanced dimensions

At the Cannes Yachting Festival, Sanlorenzo introduced the SP92, the second model in their innovative Smart Performance range, following the SP110 launched two years ago. This exceptional entry-level model, with its minimalist design and clean lines, will now take center stage at the Boot Düsseldorf from January 18 to 26, 2025. Compact yet sporty, the SP92 embodies perfect balance, preserving the unmatched style and elegance synonymous with Sanlorenzo

Born from the collaboration with the Studio Zuccon International Project for the exterior design and architect Piero Lissoni for the interior design, the SP92 retains the speed and design features of the line: on one hand, offering a total of 4,000 horsepower with waterjet propulsion, and on the other, the possibility of customization with a layout that provides essential space elements for clients approaching this size range.

At first glance, the yacht’s spacious aft area stands out: a nearly 45-square-meter beach area customizable with a retractable door that conceals the garage, which can accommodate a tender up to 3.95 meters long. The deck is even closer to the water to ensure the most complete synergy with the marine environment, while the superstructure design has been optimized for the installation of solar panels, maximizing available surface area without compromising the aesthetic profile. Additionally, the antennas are positioned “invisibly” so as not to reduce the panels’ efficiency.

The large perimeter windows of the superstructure, made with a special laminated glass composition to protect the interior from UV rays, highlight the elegance of the interiors, expanding the space and maximizing the connection with the outside, eliminating visual barriers. The large rear window provides access to the boat’s interior, which, in a completely new approach for a vessel of this kind, spans four levels, each featuring solutions that enhance the spaciousness and livability of the spaces and strengthen the close relationship with the surrounding marine environment.

The first level, which is an extension of the aft cockpit, houses a lounge that can be furnished in various ways. The higher second level hosts the main living space, with large perimeter windows, one of which is sliding to fully enjoy the connection with the outside. Further forward is the command bridge. On the third level, a short corridor leads to the cabins: the owner’s cabin at the bow, with a full-beam layout, and two twin guest cabins aft on either side, each with an en-suite bathroom. Continuing along the corridor towards the stern leads to the unexpected fourth level, which can be configured as either a Playroom/Cinema, convertible into a cabin, or a full additional fourth cabin. In both versions, the bathroom is en-suite. At the extreme bow, accessible from the command bridge, is the crew area, featuring two double cabins, each with a private bathroom, a laundry area, and a lounge/pantry serving the large, well-equipped kitchen.

For the SP line, a particular study of the waterlines was developed to achieve a very efficient hull with an extraordinary beam width, offering maximum performance and comfort during navigation. SP92 thus allows for high performance even in rough sea conditions (Beaufort 3/4), maintaining a constant trim, thanks in part to dynamic trim adjusters that reduce pitching and rolling for maximum comfort during navigation. The choice of waterjet propulsion ensures greater autonomy based on the desired speed, complete absence of vibrations, and a very shallow draft, allowing access to shallow waters. Completing the yacht’s navigability features are the extreme simplicity of handling and operation, both in maneuvering and in open sea, thanks to the ability to easily find the best trim and the optimal performance-consumption-comfort ratio.

THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE SMART PERFORMANCE LINE

Sanlorenzo has taken on the challenge of making a highly performant motor yacht a jewel of technological and energy efficiency with the Smart Performance project. The unique hull geometries allow the optimization of the resistance coefficient at commonly used speeds, thereby minimizing fuel consumption. However, the main driver the shipyard has leveraged is the reduction of each yacht component’s weight as much as possible without compromising elegance, comfort, safety, or seaworthiness.

This intervention involved every component of the vessel: from the lamination design of the hull, deck, and superstructure in advanced composite materials to the creation of glass panels with a new lightweight laminated structure that forms the large windows. The furnishings are made with composite materials and aeronautical technologies, and the choice of appliances boasts the highest energy efficiency class.

The shipyard has employed new products and technologies to improve thermal and acoustic insulation, and in the layout of the systems, cable and pipe runs were minimized, reducing redundancies while maintaining efficiency, safety, and easy accessibility for maintenance.

For the photovoltaic system on the superstructure, a new ultra-high-efficiency monocrystalline cell was used, providing an average of about 3 kWp/h, which is stored in the service battery pack, ensuring all hotellerie functions are maintained while anchored.

All this allows the SP92 to consume about 12-13% less at cruising speed than the same boat built with conventional production processes and traditional materials. The overall result is a “Smart Performance” yacht that, as much as possible, guarantees environmental protection.
