Common features shared by successful are perseverance, upgrading knowledge, and a sense of respect for job and environment. Companies NCP & Mare and Adria Libar Maritime & Yacht Training Centre have been working together for years towards a common goal-promotion of nautical activities, thus creating a recognizable image of Šibenik-Knin County
The city of Šibenik, one of the few cities in the world with two cultural monuments on the UNESCO World Heritage List that connects the Kornati islands and Krka waterfalls National parks, in recent years has been most recognizable for its rich cultural heritage. However, it also stands out on the nautical map for the most attractive nautical routes that connect the Kornati and Krk national parks.
The Šibenik Riviera is the leading Croatian tourist region in terms of the number of berths in marinas and at anchorages along 806 kilometers of the coast, including the coast of its 275 islands. With its geographical position in the center of the Adriatic coast, Šibenik is certainly a perfect starting point for travel to other coastal destinations. The excellent nautical image of Šibenik, the Šibenik Channel and the islands is complemented by 12 modern marinas, many moorings, well-equipped waterfront, as well as several organized anchorages. There are about 3600 berths in the marinas, and the accompanying facilities are of good quality, such as gas stations for boaters.
Nautical activity in this area has existed for many years and has not developed by chance. It has been encouraged and supported by institutions important for the promotion of the destination, namely the Šibenik-Knin County Tourist Board and the City of Šibenik Tourist Board, as well as the Croatian Chamber of Commerce Šibenik, which understand that nautical activity is not merely sailing, but a whole range of services that must be provided for boaters – on the mainland and on the sea, during and after sailing. They attach special value to gaining skills and knowledge related to navigation, because those who learn how to sail in this area will surely keep returning. Among those who certainly lead and contribute to this type of offer are charter companies NCP & Mare and Adria Libar Maritime & Yacht Training Center with their high quality nautical services and standard of work – the approach that has made them recognizable in the international nautical market.

33 YEARS IN THE TRAINING OF SEAFARERS AND BOATERS
Adria Libar Maritime School was founded in 1989, since when it has been training sailors and seafarers according to international and national standards, and today it is rightly a reference point for education and training in the centers of Zagreb, Rijeka, Zadar, Šibenik and Split. As education in maritime and nautical field knows no borders but aims for quality, this school has been recognized over the years by many esteemed maritime authorities whose programs it implements.
In commercial yachting, it is one of the three educational institutions in the world that are authorized to implement Belgian STCW Master & Officer Commercial Yachting modules, whose certificates are now recognized by attractive nautical administrations such as Gibraltar, Marshall Islands, Virgin Islands, Malta, and so on. Given the large number of training programs in the field of safety, simulation courses, protection and rescue, marine protection, human resources management and special training of luxury yacht crews – skippers, commanders, sailors, hostesses, Adria Libar trains about 4,000 candidates a year. Certified knowledge is implemented through practical exercises on training grounds, boats and yachts, lifeboats, but also with advanced simulators that truly simulate events at sea with advanced visualizations (Transas Navi-Trainer / Sailor 5000, ECDIS and ARPA / RADAR, GMDSS simulators).
Particularly interesting for nautical field is the training segment named “Luxury Yacht Crew Training” with the possibility of in-house training programs adapted to the working environment on the client’s boats and yachts, following management requirements through roles, responsibilities and job descriptions of individuals and teams.
NEW – EDUCATION OF CHARTER EMPLOYEES
Adria Libar Maritime School and NCP & Mare have been operating in the field of nautical education for years as smart competitors and strong partners. By monitoring the development of nautical industry in Croatia and listening to the needs of the charter industry, these two companies have joined forces and resources and created a five-day training program – Skipper / Sailor in the charter base. It is a fact that many charter companies are expanding their fleets, and the increase in capacity leads to a need for employee education. Target groups of the training program are business entities (initial training or upgrading for existing or potential employees in charter companies), but also individuals for whom this program is a good basis for continuing education and starting work in a charter environment.
All segments of this training are elaborated in detail through the program and follow the dynamics and type of work of a skipper / sailor in all seasons. The first two days on the boats in the charter base are dedicated to the preparation and dismantling of boats and their servicing in the pre-season and after the season. Techniques are presented to the participants, who are introduced to the means of work, work organization and deadline planning. The summer part of the job comes immediately after the preparation of the boats and requires full technical knowledge of the boat, because the sailor is in charge of getting the client familiar with all systems on board, inspecting of the deck and navigation equipment, and checking all safety devices according to the checklist. The two days include an inspection of the equipment, inspection of the ship, inspection of the electrical panel with all switches and fuses, inspection of the anchor and anchor winch, as well as its testing, inspection of the engine compartment and engine testing, inspection of sails and sailing equipment, inspection of the boat valves, and so on.
As a skipper, or sailor, they are available to guests in case of any intervention or when any help in sailing is needed, with a combination of training in the classroom and on board, the basics of maneuvering, tying rope knots, recognizing weather conditions and using radio devices are mastered. An important part of the theoretical training is communication with clients, i.e. providing of boaters with tips & tricks for coping in crisis situations in which you need to react safely and calmly. There is no doubt that at this stage of nautical development we are at a level that includes education of employees. Thanks to good preparation during practical training, employees manage to act with a high degree of responsibility, which further motivates them and ensures the safety and satisfaction of all stakeholders – employee, owner, organization and guest.
