With a rich history dating back six decades, Marina Punat is a symbol of the development of nautical tourism on the eastern coast of the Adriatic
The first marina on the eastern coast of the Adriatic is celebrating a significant anniversary this year – 60 years since its foundation. Marina Punat, founded in 1964 as a wintering facility for three sports sailboats of a German owner, soon became a leader in a new economic branch – nautical tourism. For 50 years, it was the largest marina on the Adriatic, known for innovations in safety and technology, awarded for its achievements.
Marina Punat also received the Golden Nautical Sail for the best marina in 2024 as part of the Jutarnji list campaign “Summer with Jutarnji”. This recognition is the result of the votes of 42,000 readers of the Jutarnji list portal, as well as surveys conducted among almost 6,500 sailors. Marina Punat is the first marina to be honoured with this title for the fourth time.
Today, Marina Punat is the most important nautical resort in Croatia, providing a full range of services for modern boaters, 365 days a year, and is a second home for almost 1,400 sailors.
Ecology and environmental protection have always been the key principles of Marina Punat’s business, and in the last ten years the marina has been intensively focusing on sustainable development, with a special focus on energy efficiency and reducing the negative impact on the environment. It achieves this through advanced systems for the collection and purification of waste water, and the use of solar energy. Evidence of their success is the fact that the first Blue Flag was flown in a marina in Punat 26 years ago.
From this year, Marina Punat is a proud member of the prestigious “Clean Marina” association, which gathers marinas with the highest standards of environmental protection under the auspices of the British association The Yacht Harbor Association. The “Golden Anchor” award by the same association has been proudly accepted for ten years in a row.
Thanks to the excellent traffic connection of the island of Krk with the highway network, Marina Punat is a logical choice for boaters from Central Europe, whether for seasonal boat launch or year-round accommodation. With 850 vessels at sea and 500 on dry land, Marina Punat represents the most significant nautical resort on the Adriatic, providing the entire range of services 365 days a year. In addition to the standard services of the marina and yacht servicing centre, there is a supermarket, two nautical stores, Hotel Kanajt 4*, surrounded by a dozen mobile homes in an olive grove, as well as two restaurants – “Marina” and “9 bofora”.
The sustainable business model of Marina Punat is an example of how nautical tourism can be a key pillar of the local economy, ensuring the livelihood of the local population and the life of a small coastal town throughout the year.
