Marina Punat enters a new era: From certified sustainability to innovative robots

Last year, 2024 was a year-long sixtieth anniversary celebration of the founding of Marina Punat. It was celebrated with the realization of two major investments – the successful operation of the new Marina restaurant at full capacity and the acquisition of a new crane – the ASCOM hydrolift with a capacity of up to seven tons, for vessels up to ten meters in length.

For a lasting memory of this significant anniversary, 60 trees were planted in the area of the municipality of Punat, as a permanent pledge for the future. The golden anniversary was crowned by two significant awards: the newspaper „Jutarnji List“ Golden Nautical Sail for the best marina according to boaters and readers, as well as the national tourism award Marina of the Year, awarded by the Croatian Tourist Board, the Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Tourism.

Sustainability and green transition are mentioned more and more often at business meetings and in the media, and practices from the Punat marina are often cited as an example of good and sustainable nautical business. This is confirmed by the TYHA – Gold Anchor certificate with a maximum of five anchors, which has been awarded for ten years, and more recently by the THYA – Clean Marina certificate, from 2024 proudly displayed in Marina Punat, as a confirmation, but also an obligation to continue with environmental awareness work.

Marina Punat is the largest nautical resort on the Adriatic, with more than 1400 vessels and twice as many residents, 200 employees and about 140 subcontractors, with numerous guests visiting or transiting. It is a big nautical family where everyone cooperates with each other, makes friends and contributes to a better nautical life in the marina, each in their own way.

PLANS FOR 2025

In addition to the new generation hydrolift for safely lifting vessels up to ten meters, Marina Punat plans to expand the existing solar power plant and build a new one, with the installation of solar panels on all available surfaces.
For more than a decade, the marina has been working to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through its own electricity production. Now, they are planning a significant expansion of the existing solar power plant, which would further improve the reduction of CO2 emissions from the current 13 tons to the planned 35 tons per year.

TWO NEW DRY DOCKS IN DRY MARINA

In order to provide equally high-quality service to all users of the dry marina, the planned project for the construction of dry docks is underway. By the beginning of the new nautical season, two new docks will be completed, which will be equipped with electricity and water connections, as well as stairs for safe access to ships. Firefighting equipment, including fire extinguishers, is also essential. At the end of 2025, the completion of the third dry waterfront is planned, which will give the users of the dry marina the same level of comfort as the guests in the marina.

PARTNERSHIP FOR INNOVATION – PROJECT MARINERO

Marina Punat, in cooperation with partners, launched an innovative project to develop autonomous robots that will be used in marinas, with the aim of improving the efficiency of business processes and the organization of activities.

This project brings together leading experts from different sectors. Marina Punat, as the bearer of project activities, cooperates with companies Probotica and Subjekt, as well as with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding from Zagreb. The goal of the project is to develop an autonomous robotic system specialized in marina operations. The system will include mobile robots that will perform various tasks, such as monitoring and patrolling the marina, photographing and recording the condition of vessels, as well as monitoring risk factors. Autonomous robots will use sensors, smoke and gas detectors, thermal cameras and other surveillance functionality to ensure maximum safety and efficiency.
