Marina Punat, the oldest marina in Croatia and a pioneering nautical center on the Adriatic coast, is celebrating a significant jubilee this year – ten years since it was awarded the prestigious Five Anchors accreditation delivered by the British association TYHA. This year, the marina has received another important award – the CLEAN MARINA certificate, a globally recognized symbol of commitment to environmental sustainability, responsible practices and service excellence
The CLEAN MARINA certificate is more than a title; it is a confirmation of the marina’s commitment to preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Adriatic Sea. Adhering to strict environmental guidelines and constantly improving its environmental management systems, Marina Punat is constantly raising the quality of its services and actively contributing to the preservation of the natural environment. The certification process requires the marina to actively implement measures to prevent pollution, manage waste, reduce energy consumption and promote sustainable water management practices. The CLEAN MARINA certificate is aligned with the values and mission of Marina Punat in creating a sustainable, green and attractive destination for boaters on the picturesque island of Krk, known as the “golden island” due to its many cultural and natural beauties.

A walk through the capital city of Krk leads past the medieval Frankopan Castle and the 12th century cathedral, while the picturesque panorama of the town of Vrbnik from the cliffs preserves not only the tradition, but also the secret of making top quality *žlahtina* wine. A visit to Jurandvor, near Baška, location of a replica of the Baška Tablet, is an indispensable part of the cultural-historical route, which continues in the unique Dobrinje, one of the important centers of glagolitic script on Krk. Its old town historic core, located on a hill in the heart of the island, with fantastic viewpoints and lush nature in the surroundings, is only ten minutes away from Soline bay, known for its healing mud. Not far away is the small Biserujka cave, hidden under the karst hills, near the surface, with the lowest point at only thirty meters.

Apart from the beautiful coves and beaches on the coast, many gems are also hidden in the inland areas of the island of Krk, which is networked with as many as 300 km of maintained and marked hiking trails, making it a favorite destination for hiking and mountain climbing. Among the more popular spots, Mjesečev plato (Moon plateau) stands out, northeast of Baška, leading through various landscapes and natural phenomena, revealing man-made landmarks – *mrgar* and *gromac*. The island’s contrasts, from lush vegetation to rugged pastures crisscrossed by kilometers of dry walls, is best seen from the highest point of the island, the peak of Obzova, the sixth highest on the Croatian islands, which separates the fertile Bašćanska dolina from Puntarska draga, where the oldest marina on this part of the Adriatic is tucked away – Marina Punat.
