“My first relationship was with freshwater—lakes and quiet streams that felt calm and serene. Then I saw the ocean for the first time, and there was something violent about it. The waves—you could run from them as a child, trying to race the water. But inevitably, a wave would be too big and knock you down. You realize the ocean is unpredictable, tricky. Unlike streams or lakes, which are mostly the same, the ocean can turn violent in an instant.
What I like about this boat is that I don’t just observe from one place. There are two or three different spots where I can comfortably take it all in. Right now, I’m here because I want the sun, and since the boat’s sitting lower, I can see everything from above. Even when I’m inside, I can see all around. But sometimes, I don’t want the sun, and it’s nice that there are three levels behind me where I can pick the perfect spot. It’s like having a beach on the water—you can set up camp wherever you like.
I’m on a journey of discovery. I’ve got a captain with me, and I asked him to take me through the history of these waters. Many boats have passed through here for thousands of years. This is a place filled with history, mythologies, and great stories. We’ve talked about Ulysses and his journey, and it feels like those stories come alive for me.
I’m deeply grateful for the incredible experiences I’ve had—things I never thought I’d witness in person. I’ve been treated so beautifully around the world, and now, this—being on this boat, taking a break from work, and realizing that there’s so much more to life. The people who have made it possible for me to stay on this boat for another four days—thank you. It’s because of their generosity that I’m able to explore where Ulysses once sailed. I’m truly flattered and humbled. I don’t think I deserve this, but I want them to know it means so much to me. I’ll tell my children about these four unforgettable days. Thank you, Pardo.”
