As electric vehicles have become more widely available, automotive brands are expanding their focus to include other form’s of transport. Porsche is the latest brand to switch gears and enter the marine sphere

Two of the most prestigious names in their respective industries – Frauscher Boats and Porsche automobiles – have come together to create a stunning new electric boat – the eFantom. Porsche has optimised and further developed its drive technology designed for road vehicles for use on the water. The sleek 28-foot daycruiser will be based on Frauscher’s 858 Fantom Air motor boat and feature the automatic drive technology of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which Porsche will debut in the future Macan EV. The jointly developed electric sports boat has already made initial test drives on Lake Garda in Italy and proved its exceptional handling characteristics.

MACAN ELECTRIC DRIVE TECHNOLOGY
Porsche has refined components from the Premium Platform Electric electric-vehicle architecture to suit marine applications. This boat features a latest generation permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor (PSM) limited to 400 kW routed to a Z-drive, power electronics, shaft transmission and a 100 kWh lithium ion battery from the Porsche Macan. The eFantom glides comfortably over the water with four pre-programmed driving modes: Docking, Range, Sport and Sport Plus. Each mode changes the characteristic curve of throttle response and includes different speed limits, such as 8 knots in Docking mode for harbour driving.

By driving at hull speed, the range extends beyond 55 nm. Alike Porsche cars, the eFantom will astound with the acceleration and the speed she can reach. The top speed achievable is 46 kn with Sport Plus mode engaged. The total journey time varies between 2 to 3 hours for typical owners trips, depending on the cruising profile.

Thanks to the 800-volt technology from Porsche, the electric boat can be charged at over 250 kW DC fast-charging stations, with battery filling from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. AC charging is the most common use case due to availability in ports, and an 11-kW AC charger comes standard.

The eFantom will celebrate its official world premiere in January 2024 at the “BOOT” boat show in Düsseldorf. Delivery of a first edition of 25 units is to begin in 2024. Interested parties can contact RR Yachts which is the exclusive Frauscher distributor for Montenegro

SPORTS LUXURY
Porsche’s electric sports boat is designed to be not just powerful, but also stylish. Studio F. A. Porsche was also responsible for the design of the helmstand, which features a high-gloss black instrument panel behind a frameless tinted acrylic glass windscreen. The side ends are designed as winglets – stylistically a reference to the iconic Porsche 911 and at the same time are practical grab handles. Five analogue gauges on the upper level of the instrument panel and a typical Porsche steering wheel designed with salt water resistant materials add to the sports car look. In classic Porsche fashion, the start button is to the left of the wheel. The two front seats are inspired by Porsche’s sports seats in road vehicles, with plenty of lateral support, integrated headrests and an embroidered crest.

The eFantom based on the 858 Fantom Air day cruiser, features a spacious hull, lounge area with two sunbathing pads and seating for nine passengers. The unique feature of this model is that customers can match the color of the eFantom with the color of their Porsche car by choosing the paint from the Porsche paint chart. The 850 Fantom Air boat comes standard with 2 folding bimini tops, high-end audio system, 9-inch multi-information display with echo sounder and chart plotter, bow thruster, electric windlass with stainless steel anchor and LED ambient lighting.

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air has been designed and engineered to be equally taken out on serene inland waters or more demanding sea conditions. An emission-free, silent and sustainable driving pleasure.
