The finest fishing amenities combined with the FD build’s renowned volume and luxury.
Horizon’s launch of the FD80 Hull 16 marks the first fishing cockpit to be featured in the acclaimed Fast Displacement (FD) Series. Commissioned by boating enthusiasts with a love for the sea and a passion for fishing, this FD80 caters specifically to anglers and blends luxury and practicality in a four-stateroom-plus-crew layout with generou entertaining spaces.
Christened Amethyst, the yacht’s styling pays homage to its namesake. The owners, both born in the month of February and united in a passion for fishing, selected amethyst, their shared birthstone, for personal significance and as a symbol of good fortune. From the exterior, the yacht’s most noticeable feature is the specially fitted outriggers, hinting at a fishing system that brings the excitement of sportfishing to the forefront. Interior-wise, the owners’ affinity for amethyst comes through, reflected in elegant purple accents harmoniously paired with water-bleached walnut finishes.
“We were delighted to collaborate with the owners to capture their passion for fishing,” said Horizon Yacht Australia director Mark Western. “The result is a vessel crafted to enable them to embark on adventures where they can experience the exhilarating thrill of reeling in a large catch.”
Ready for Reeling
Primed for a supreme angling experience, the starboard side of the fishing cockpit is equipped with a Reelax Game Fighting Chair, teppanyaki grill, Garmin Helm, and ample storage space. A portable induction cooktop occupies the port side. Aft, a one-meter bait well, two tuna tubes, and storage space are conveniently positioned. Additionally, discreetly located beneath the wooden floor is an ice box with an Eskimo Ice machine and storage compartments. Moving to the fishing tool room, a fridge and freezer portside, and a fishing rod locker to starboard provide ample storage for all the necessary gear.
Form Meets Function for Quintessential Luxury
The main deck aft is highlighted by a custom-made dining table featuring an anchor motif with an amethyst inlay that adds a touch of nautical flair to the table’s design. Conveniently positioned flanking the built-in sofa, top-loading refrigerator-freezers ensure chilled refreshments are within easy reach. Portside, a drawer refrigerator is discreetly integrated near the entrance to the salon and accessible via a pocket door that slides open with ease.
Stepping into the salon, soothing water-bleached walnut tones are punctuated by a dash of brilliance in the form of the lounge chair and a rug featuring a flowing pattern of fish and purple veining set against a gray base. On both the port and starboard sides, demarcating the lounge from the galley forward, are full-height custom mullion panels with RGBW backlighting. Inspired by the enchanting undersea world, these translucent panels evoke the vibrant beauty of ocean life. A bespoke Michelangelo quartzite coffee table takes center stage in the lounge, surrounded by a portside Lshaped sofa with concealed under-storage, while a 65” TV to starboard folds up when not in use, preserving the unobstructed view while maintaining a sense of openness.
Moving forward, the open-style galley features a cohesive design, with Michelangelo quartzite as a unifying element — wrapped around the large island with three bar stools and continuing onto the countertops and the flooring, which is heated for year-round comfort. The cabinetry features a custom vacuum-sealing drawer, added at the owner’s request, which enhances the space’s usability and storage capabilities.
In the main deck foyer, the glass façade of the wine cooler is reflected on the dropped ceiling with a mirror finish, amplifying the sense of heightened expanse. A black metal-rimmed partition in clear glass frames the stairwell, spotlighting the padded wall with a wavy pattern and presenting it reminiscent of a gallery work of art.
Plush Suites
The master stateroom spans the full beam of the forwardmost section of the main deck and exudes a sense of refined luxury and subtle sophistication. The custom mattress and bed frame with storage drawer are set against a full-height, backlit headboard upholstered in Texdecor vinyl wallcovering.
Facing the bed, a vibrant splash of color is introduced by a 55” TV nestled within a bespoke Affresco art feature wall that creates a striking visual contrast while echoing the subtle amethyst hues that permeate the yacht.
Brazil Jade tiles matched with black metal fixtures create a harmonious balance of natural beauty and modern sophistication in the ensuite. Heated flooring adds a luxurious touch, while a full-height mirror on the sliding door facing the bow creates a sense of depth. Belowdecks, a trio of VIP ensuite staterooms, each with its own distinct personality, are marked with metal nameplates. Ruby, the VIP in the bow, is defined by red accents and features a V-berth with rotating beds that can be joined or separated as two twins depending on guest needs. Sapphire, the VIP to starboard, is a haven of tranquility that showcases soft blue hues in a serene and inviting ambience. The portside VIP, Emerald, lives up to its name with refreshing green accents that infuse a revitalizing atmosphere. Both the mirrored VIPs amidships offer expansive panoramic windows, allowing guests to take in stunning views and enriching the luxurious experience of these exceptional spaces.
Sharing the multifunctional layout of the lower deck, the laundry room includes the addition of handy accessories, such as the owner-requested hanging rod for air-drying delicate items or keeping clothes organized. Complementing these thoughtful additions are ample storage space, a space-saving stacked washer and dryer, a convenient pull-out ironing board, and a wash basin.
Space for Every Occasion
The upper-deck configuration offers a dynamic and adaptable space. In the pilothouse, European Gray Oak flooring sets the stage for three leather helm chairs, a dayhead to starboard, and a cozy L-shaped sofa with dinette to port complete this fully enclosed area. Tailored to the owner’s preferences, the skylounge is also enclosed, with adaptability to unique climate top of mind. On the port side, a comfortable U-shaped sofa offers the perfect spot to relax or enjoy dining. A wet bar, three bar stools, and a 43” foldable TV occupy the starboard side. Additional storage space in the form of a drawer refrigerator and freezer, as well as an ice maker, is housed beneath the bar. With the touch of a button, the space can be transformed into a vibrant party atmosphere, thanks to the bar wall’s dynamic RGBW lighting system with a unique patterned line design.
On the boat deck, a circular Jacuzzi with a sleek Corian white onyx bar counter and three accompanying bar stools make for a perfect spot to unwind and socialize. And with outdoor entertainment amenities, including a teppanyaki grill and chest freezer, within easy reach, the possibilities for alfresco gatherings in the company of friends and family are endless. Powered by twin MTU 1,600hp engines and twin Onan 27kW generators, Amethyst promises superior performance and an unforgettable angling experience. With her addition to the Horizon fleet, she is poised to redefine luxury and adventure on the water, offering a perfect blend of sophistication and individuality for its passionate owners.
