Renowned superyacht designer and founder of the Vela Code Foundation, Dan Lenard, is embarking on his third attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest solo, non-stop, unassisted sailing in an ILCA 7 dinghy.
This challenge involves continuous sailing, day and night, without making landfall, contacting other vessels, or anchoring. The current record stands at 283.5 nautical miles, while Lenard aims to surpass this with an ambitious target of 500 nautical miles.

Previously, in September 2024 and June 2025, Lenard made significant progress during his earlier attempts but was forced to abort due to adverse weather conditions, prioritizing safety.
What makes this feat particularly challenging is the ILCA 7 dinghy’s sail configuration, which can only be hoisted once before departure and cannot be adjusted throughout the entire voyage, significantly increasing the difficulty and endurance required.
This endeavor fully aligns with the principles of the Vela Code Foundation, with the entire journey planned to be emission-free and free of single-use plastic waste, highlighting the urgent need for ocean conservation and environmental awareness.
