Marko Gnjidić is the CEO at MMK Systems and the founder of Booking Manager, the world’s largest yacht charter network. As a creative thinker and a pioneer in developing unique solutions for the yacht charter industry, Marko has been successfully showing for years how knowledge sharing is imperative in this industry.
N: How and when was Booking Manager created?
19 years ago, the idea was born because we realized that the yacht charter industry needs a unique solution for managing its daily business. Charters then communicated with partners and clients through basic means of communication, and used paper and pen and spreadsheets to organize and monitor business. With time and development, the system has facilitated and accelerated daily business, and at the same time had the purpose of networking with new and existing partners, booking and, finally, communication at the global level.Marko Gnjidić, the CEO at MMK Systems and the founder of Booking Manager
N: This is a world-leading system and you have on offer charter boats from all over the world. Do you cover all continents?
The Mediterranean is a kind of organized charter center and we started from here, and now we have clients from all over the world – the Caribbean, Asia, North and South America, and we are continuously joined by partners from new destinations, which we currently have 460 in the system. Given that our market is global, it is important to note that the system operates in 28 languages, covers all currencies and is adapted for fleets from 1 to more than 1000 vessels.Marko Gnjidić, the CEO at MMK Systems and the founder of Booking Manager
N: Does river charter also form a part of your system?
River charters are a growing and specific market as 5% of their charter is from Saturday to Saturday, while 95% is organized at weekends, on holidays and other different dates. They represent an interesting market niche, and number about 700 vessels in more than 40 destinations in our system. Our goal is to continuously acquire new river fleets and expand the offer in that sector.Marko Gnjidić, the CEO at MMK Systems and the founder of Booking Manager
N: As any industry, the yacht charter industry is sometimes not immune to fraud and organized crime. How do you protect your own and your client’s interests in protection and security?
Booking Manager protects charters and agents with a few basic checks, which must be passed by every company and every vessel that enters our system. To begin with, we require verification of all legal documents on company registration, vessel registration documents and all documents that verify safety, and for additional protection and security of all of us – we have introduced “Rule 3 complaints” which works in such a way that the company for which we have received 3 justified complaints we suspend from the system until they resolve the situations with their partners.Marko Gnjidić, the CEO at MMK Systems and the founder of Booking Manager
N: You are the organizer of the Booking Manager Summit conference specialized for professionals in Yacht Charter. Where did the idea come from and how did you start organizing the conference for the charter industry?
Since we have been operating in the charter market for a long time, we receive continuous feedback and have a valuable insight into the functioning of the entire industry. Also, every year we organize several seminars for educational purposes, where we connect the functioning of the Booking Manager system and charter activities. Through all this, we realized the need for education a few years ago and in 2019 we organized the first Booking Manager Summit. Our educational conference proved to be a complete success, because in addition to having fantastic speakers with case studies from practice, it also served as a networking event for our clients and all those eager for education in this sector.Marko Gnjidić, the CEO at MMK Systems and the founder of Booking Manager
N: When and where is this year’s Summit?
The same as last year, the center of the Yacht Charter world will be the Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Zagreb from November 10 to 12, 2021. In those 3 days, we will have over 60 lectures by renowned experts from around the world who will use practical business examples to guide participants towards the joint improvement of the yacht charter industry. The entire conference will be held live and online so that participants who are not able to travel to Zagreb will be able to follow it.Marko Gnjidić, the CEO at MMK Systems and the founder of Booking Manager
N: There will certainly be talks at the conference about the future of the Yacht Charter industry. Given the challenging times, we have found ourselves in, what are the expectations for the future?
As in previous years, the Booking Manager Summit will host the leaders of the yacht charter world in panel discussions on the future of the industry and trends. We believe that the period of the pandemic has shown that changes in the charter industry are necessary, such as greater flexibility and smaller discounts, and we hope that the future of the charter industry will continue in this direction. Bearing in mind the situation 2019/2020, we are very optimistic about the growth of demand and excellent booking figures this summer and continuation of that trend in 2022.Marko Gnjidić, the CEO at MMK Systems and the founder of Booking Manager
