Icehotel is a hotel and an art exhibition with ever-changing art made out of ice and snow. Icehotel is created in a new guise every winter, completely made out of natural ice from Torne River, one of Sweden’s national rivers and last untouched waters. When the winter suites have melted back into the river in spring, a part of the hotel still stands, a place where visitors can experience the ice and snow year-round. Jukkasjärvi is one of the oldest villages in Norrbotten, and its very name translates to “meeting place by the water”. Their intention is for Icehotel to also bring people together around ice and art.
2. Kakslauttanen (Saariselkä, Finland)
Kakslauttanen is a family hotel in Finnish Lapland, 250 kilometres north of the Artic Circle, and it is one of the world’s best places for watching the northern lights. This far north, you can see the Aurora Borealis around 200 days a year. Glass Igloos are available from August through April, which are the best time to see the natural light show. The resort holds in total of 220 units with over 750-900 beds. They also have 5 smoke saunas, 6 restaurants with an unique concept, Art Gallery, Brewery, Santa’s world, Sami village, Reindeer / Husky / Horse farms on the premises in 650 hectares. At the moment they are also building Scandinavia’s biggest Planetarium and an underground tunnel from the Art Gallery to the Planetarium.
