The largest new-generation river tanker in the world is currently being built at ”Shipyard Begej”, the former ”Begej” shipyard purchased by ”Rubikon Shipping Company” in 2017.
The construction of the vessel “MT Helsinki”, a new generation river tanker, is in progress in the Zrenjanin shipyard. The vessel was ordered by the foreign oil company “Shell” through a broker from Belgium. It is a tanker type C, 135 meters long, and 11.4 meters wide.
“We are working on the ship in two parts, and in our second shipyard, in Perlez, we will assemble the vessel in mid-September and launch it.”– Marko Gudović, director
The vessel is light compared to its dimensions and will weigh only 855 tons. The shipyard “Shipyard Begej”, by the way, currently employs 130 workers, and it is planned to increase that number to 250 employees. “Begej” was bought by “Rubicon Shipping Company” in 2017 at a price of 46 million dinars. In three years, the new owner has invested another 1.6 million euros in the Zrenjanin shipyard.
“It is known that the Begej shipyard was in bankruptcy and it took a lot of funds to bring it to the current phase. We have 130 employees, although at the beginning we planned to employ only 75 workers.”– Marko Gudović, director
After “Rubicon” bought the ”Begej” shipyard, in November 2019, it was the turn of the purchase of the “Bomeks” shipyard. Thanks to such an investment, “Rubicon” is the company with the largest capacity for the production of vessels in Europe.
“We have started the realization of the project of two dry cargo barges, ninety meters long, in two years we have done the project of self-propelled dry cargo and for the next year we have confirmed four new projects.”– Marko Gudović, director
